Ryan Guillen 7:01pm

Thanks everybody for coming out. Be sure to join us for our next Virtual Town Hall on July 13th, and be sure to come by and chat over a blizzard or two at our Listening Tour this Saturday.

Ryan Guillen 6:56pm

Horacio-- You're welcome.

Horacio V. 6:55pm

Thanks for all you do, Mr. Guillen!

Ryan Guillen 6:51pm

Julia-- You can request a hardship transfer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Please contact us atour Capitol Office, and we can go over the process with you. You can reach us by phone at (512) 463-0416 or via email at District31.Guillen@house.texas.gov.

Ryan Guillen 6:47pm

Jeannie-- There's a great website called CollegeForAllTexans.com. It lists the different types of financial aid, including all of the available state and federal grants and scholarships. This website also has the tools to help you figure out which school is right for you.

Julia T. 6:45pm

My grandson is in jail in Wise County, but I cannot make that long of a drive to visit him. Is their a way to get him transferred closer to Willacy?

Ryan Guillen 6:44pm

Laura-- Send me an email at District31.Guillen@house.texas.gov with the best phone number where we canreach you to talk about your situation.

Jeannie N. 6:41pm

I'm a high school senior, and I'm looking for ways to help pay for college. Do you know of anyscholarships that I can apply for?

Laura S. 6:40pm

I applied for disability benefits but my application was denied. Can you help?

Ryan Guillen 6:38pm

Elisa-- It may be a little early to tell right now. There's a strong possibility that public education funding mayget a lot of attention. The final decision from the Texas Supreme Court will have a lot do with that.

Elisa R. 6:36pm

What do you think is going to be a big issue in the next session?

Ryan Guillen 6:33pm

Humberto-- Absolutely! Email me at District31.Guillen@house.texas.gov some locations, dates and times that workbest with your schedule. If you're free this Saturday, I'll be at the Dairy Queen in San Diego at 1:45 PM for our Listening Tour--we can chat then. I'll also be in the area on May 12th for our District Office Open House.

Ryan Guillen 6:31pm

Jorge-- We're always happy to have new students participate in our Student Legislative Session. Your son canask his counselor or principal to sign up. We'll be sending materials for this year's SLS to the schools in the fall.

Humberto A. 6:29pm

I live in San Diego. My daughter needs to talk to her state representative for a school project. Can we meet sometime?

Jorge G. 6:28pm

My son's friend participated in your legislative session last year. Now, my son wants to go this year. How can he sign up?

Ryan Guillen 6:25pm

Rick-- Off the top of my head, I know there is a Rural Fire Department Assistance Program with the TexasA&M Forest Service. It provides rural VFDs with funding to get new vehicles, equipment and clothing. You can find more information on the grant on our Community Summit page. http://www.ryanguillen.com/#!virtual-community-summit-12/yjpuv

Ryan Guillen 6:23pm

Sonya-- We try to keep the itinerary for the Listening Tour consistent. We don't want to confuse people bymaking any changes at the last minute, so we picked each county seat for our preset schedule.

Rick D. 6:22pm

I'm a member of a volunteer fire department, and we really need some new equipment. Are thereany grants available that could help us?

Ryan Guillen 6:19pm

Sijfredo-- Of course! I've given commencement speeches to high schools in the past. Email me the location, datesand times at District31.Guillen@house.texas.gov

Sonya J. 6:15pm

Why don't you go to the Freer Dairy Queen during your listening tour?

Sijfredo M. 6:12pm

I'm a high school counselor. Can you give the commencement speech at my high schoolgraduation?

Ryan Guillen 6:09pm

Opponents of historic racing held funding for the agency until the Commission repealed rules that allowed the practice. In February, the Commission voted to repeal the rules. Now, it’s up to the Legislative Budget Board to approve the $1.5 million in funding that will allow the commission to operate through the remainder of the biennium.

Mikey P. 6:08pm

What's going on with the Racing Commission?

Ryan Guillen 6:00pm

Welcome everybody to our first interactive Virtual Town Hall of the new year.
